We live in the epoch of the rapid development of new technologies that step by step become a very important and indispensable part of our life we can live without. They are getting as necessary for us as the air for breathing. In many of the lesson group work plays a central role in the learning process. There are several reasons why we should use group work in the classroom. First, it is an excellent technique for conceptual learning, creative problem solving and it improves students’ oral skills.
Furthermore, it helps in keeping students involved in their work and managing instructions for students with a wide range of academic skills.
We may want to make badges for every member of the group so that they know who is who as we walk around the room, we can make sure the students are performing their roles. Group work requires practice. Everything may not go smoothly the first few times we try it. We should not give up.
We learn from the mistakes and try again. Also we should realize that when students are working in groups, they talk and can make a noise. We should remind students to speak softly, yet through speaking English they will master the sooner.
Also group work is used a lot in our lessons, we also make use of pair work. We may want to assign quarterly partners, or we may want students to change partners each day. We have included here some ways to match students in addition to having them work with the person sitting next to them.
Of course, project work is presented in the experience too. Nowadays project work is very popular at the lessons of English. It was written much about this kind of activity. No doubt, working on projects makes learning enjoyable.
Besides, students learn how to work in group, the try to help and support each other. Students look for information, choose it from the variety of sources. While making projects students use different methods: search, comparison and analyses.
These skills are very important nowadays. So, students aren’t just receiving and producing words, they are:
— collecting information;
— drawing pictures, maps, diagrams;
— cutting out pictures;
— colouring; carrying out interviews and surveys.
